Fear not shoddy tools, sloppy works, nor untrimmed detail.

Nothin's begun, nor gettin' done whilst we piss, an' moan, an' wail.

Wait not for devas ta lift ye, nor daemons ta drag ye down.
They were never here to save ye, nor steal thy thorny crown.

This world is how we make it, be it good, bad, ill, or well.
The poisons we wrought, and then forgot, remain for us to cure, and tell...

Teach them instead the value of the question that moves us forward through time.

For this world needs no more heroes, no primal screams o'er wartorn plains.
What this world deserves is healing through humble working human means.

But make not the mistakes of our forebearers, to think humble means ignorant or thick.
Pray instead be the faithful steward of all we developed and learned to work a clever trick.

A question of Heart or Intellect, an answer of Heart And Intellect

Another way to frame this question, which may shed some additional light, is to also ask if we are "Heartless or Stupid." Do we as American citizens lack the heart, the commitment, the vision and the will to shape the laws of an immigration system that holds to the taught strictures of legal certainties in the face of the necessitative flexibility of adapting to a changing economic landscape? Do we simply throw our collective hands in the air and plead the bliss of our ignorance as the only possible solution to a complex system of changes that must be made in order to maintain the survival of our aggregate society?

Even the shortsighted among us can observe that we live in a world of vast economic and social complexity. As anecdotal evidence mounts, stories are literally littering our media channels regarding the direct and real impact of illegal immigrant laborers upon the wage rates in what used to be well paying job sectors. This problem is even larger than simply wages however, as the demand for laborers in some sectors, such as migrant agricultural work, can easily outstrip the economic feasibility of paying any laborers other than unskilled immigrants. Do we simply lack the tenacity to tackle the hydra that our legal system has evolved into, have we no heart for this fight?

Or, are we so stupid as to be blind to the obvious benefit that an increased influx of highly tenacious, innovative, cunning, adaptable, intelligent, enterprising, and entrepreneurial individuals may represent to the economy of this country? America, a country founded upon the concept of freedom of trade, the craft of creativity, the idealism of the idea itself. Have we become so blindly ignorant and stagnantly set in our ways that we assume we know all possible dimensions of economic success and enterprise? Do we presume that we alone, as natural born United States Citizens, are endowed by the creator as the sole proprietors and stewards of knowledge in the art of artistry, the craft of creativity, the demands of the 'deal'?

We do, most certainly, not hold sovereignty or patriarchal right over these characteristics. In fact, as Americans, and indeed now as Human Beings, Homo Sapiens Sapiens, citizens of Earth, and (possibly most importantly) as stewards of Gaia, we should recognize that no single individual holds the keys to all of the locks on human capability. This is a responsibility in which we all share our own unique part. None of us can solve these problems individually, but we can all of us solve them by each carrying our load in trade of that which we know how to do well. So long as we realize that we are not at all Heartless, we are not in the least way Stupid, contrastingly we then become wise beyond our individual experience, mighty in spite of, and quite possibly because of, our frailties.

The freedom to prosper and express our ideas is one of the greatest gifts of human capacity. It is an unstoppable tide, and irresistible force, and it is innate. We can count on this very natural and evolutionary energy source just as we can count upon the gravity of our home-world, as we can count upon the winds caused by her coriolis spin. It is the most natural energy source of any that we humans can tap. Not a "Green" energy, but a pink, violet, orange, red, brown, white, yellow, and black energy. We might even call it a form of rainbow power. So, friendly (at lest I hope by this point) reader, I put the question to you. If there exists this massive store of energy within human capability, why, in the name of everything that we hold sacred and dear, are we attempting to tap it with a base, mundane, scarcity mentality parlour trick like damming it up, and constricting its flow?

At this point of unprecedented historic requirement for adaptability, innovation, evolution, and plain ol' common sense would we not be better served to open the gates and get some energy into motion? Of course it is going to be difficult. Nothing worthwhile has ever been accomplished easily. Yes, it is going to require work of all of us. Some of that work will be in cleaning up the messes of criminality and base human usury that accompany population increase and natural social balancing. There are many who will preach and proselytize that their academic understanding or (possibly worse) their theological insight grants them a link to the divine truth of the folly of our ignorance. Human history does not have an equal for the changes we face, and the decisions which we, as global citizens, are now equally empowered and required to make.

I, for one, believe that we can make the right choices. I believe that you can see through to the truth of your own circumstances, speak your truth, make the right decisions, and take the right actions. I believe these truths, and there is nothing that anyone can do to stop me. I humbly submit to you, dear reader, that this is a very good and important mythology for us all to hold as sacred truth.

This white knight rides a Trojan steed

Daniel C. Jones, of the inhabitat blog, has posted an interesting follow up to Amy Cholia's initial inspection of Cella Energy's new nanometric hydrogen encapsulation technology and hydrocarbon fuel additive/replacement tech (that's traditional fossil fuel additive and/or replacement made from hydrogen infused microbeads for all you kids playing at home, {winks}). The commentary from the internet peanut gallery on both of these articles seems to range between noncommittal to overtly hostile and pessimistic. I personally believe both of these attitudes to be flat wrong, and here's why.

It seems pretty clear what's going on here with a simple glance at the surface details. Rumor states that the oil industry has worked behind the scenes for years to keep technology off the shelf that, if refined, may pose a threat to their supply chain infrastructure. This while maintaining a widespread influence over volatile prices in a highly comoditized market sector. A practice which, while unproven to do so in public knowledge, stands capable of allowing investors who are capital flush to trade in oil futures based upon insider market information, thus permitting such investors to grow and maintain vast fortunes. Now, we know why the individuals who operate the sectors would have an interest in technology that would upset their marketplaces since they not only have a great deal of capital invested, they also are beholden to very widespread social responsibilities like family relationships, business relationships, employee relationships and so on.

Now we see that Cella is accepting $64k in funds from Shell, which is a drop in the bucket in terms of Cella's likely requirements for start up capital, however, it gets Cella on Shell's radar, and, more importantly, into the boardroom conversation. Additionally the microbead tech is now being presented as a supply chain 'enhancement' to the current refinery process. A hat tip to current infrastructure, existing unions and job-holders, multitudes of government and military contracts, entrenched business empires, as well as the overall design and delivery process for all forms of automotive transport, maintenance, and repair.

In addition to all of this truly miraculous synchronicity, Cella is offering an additional engineering development potential in the microbead recapture and recycling hardware mentioned in the article. A technology that governing organizations can mandate be installed on existing vehicles before they can be approved, licensed, and taxed to run on the new fuel formats. I mean that plural 'formats' as the obvious product deployment cycle would be a gradual product phase in over a period of decades to cover the time required to slowly wean the feudal regimes of the Middle East from their addiction to Western World capital infrastructure investment.

Looks to me like all the bases are covered on a global, capital, economic, infrastructural, and governable scale. No one gets singled out, everyone who currently pays keeps paying, and everyone who currently gets paid keeps getting paid. In fact, this tech, if viable, even stands to give the western world a working economic 'handbrake' on oil producing warlord states. Just up the microbead additive production to compensate for any necessary embargo on foreign oil.

My advice? Invest in Cella. The oil industry is, and there's too much noise on this subject to make it disappear. I think this is big oil, big transport, .GOV, and .MIL's chosen savior. Watch and learn folks. If you want to survive in the new world you have to work as broadly as possible. Cella is clearly marketing in this direction.

This is one of the most profoundly grounded and sensible observations that I have heard in recent memory regarding any of the Myan prophecy or 2012 calendar mythology. It rises above the noise-some chaff parroted and mimic-ed by humans too distracted and addicted to be bothered with manifesting their own evolution. This circumspection by Phillip Coppens appears in a promo for the documentary "The Galactic Alignment" on the DVD "2012 Mayan Prophecy and the Shift of the Ages". Phillip's words speak to me on a level that feels very honest in an age when so many individuals act in possession of an apparent certainty that everyone but themselves is doing the exactly the wrong thing.

In the promo Coppens states:
"Now, one of the things about 2012 which needs to be pointed out is actually that this galactic alignment is Earth centric. It's us seeing the sun in the galactic center from the position of the Earth. It's a symbolic event. It's not meant to be taken as literal fact. Like so many things about ancient civilizations and their obsession with the skies, it involves this element of symbolism." He goes on to clarify his understanding of the Mayan's possible intentions "They were using this as a metaphor of giving us a truth perhaps for example that this pool at the galactic center was once the birth of our sun, but it's a symbolic message it haven't to be taken litterally far too many things in this day and age are taken litteral, and that is a problem when we try to understand ancient civilizations and why they try to go on about 2012, or calendars, or anything else for that matter."

Now, if only some of the conspiracy theorists, schizophrenics, prophets, symbolic truth addicts, or other mental indigents of our modern age would grok this simple truth of mythological, symbological, and metaphorical flexibility, then we might have a vast army of healty and creative minds, instead of rank, inneffectual, psychological terrorists running amuck on the information repositories of our world. Frankly, my fine internet friends, if you are certain that you are doing the 'right thing' then you have an excellent measure for why it is probably the entirely wrong thing to be doing.

Seek truth people. Seek it within, and, once you find it, guide yourself to health and wellbeing. Preaching your personal truth, removed of fact and interpersonal understanding, is simply base terrorism, and I think we can all agree that there is an unnecessary abundance of such willful abuse in this world. Seek personal health, sacred time and space, balance, and tranquility. You will discover that you have achieved these states not by your own knowledge, but because someone, eventually, will ask you how you did it, and when they do stop and ponder for a moment before answering. You will have to ponder, not because you do not have an answer, but because you will want to answer them in a way that only they will understand, and that, simultaneously, they will understand perfectly.

My life has experienced tummult and turmoil in the past few years. In June of 2005 I ended a twelve year relationship with a woman whom I thought I loved deeply. I have found over the past three and one half years that I had no idea what love was at the time. This fact made the breakup entirely healthy and necessarey in retrospect. The healing process for me, however, has been one long... strange... trip...

Life in my world has always been taken with a tint of strangeness. I have lived in great appreciation of all things occult and metaphysical. My inquisitive mind and unquenchable curiosity together with a love of all things ghostly, psychic, or haunted have given me a great appreciation for stories of the undocumented capability of mankind and the lingering nature of spiritual energy.

In my youth I enjoyed pushing the philosophical limits of any adult unlucky enough to find themselves an arbitrary figure of authority in my presence. Members of the clergy and religious teachers bore this hardship most keenly. I sought real and concrete answers, and in the face of a lack of answers I sought admissions of ignorance. Now, nobody likes a smartass, especially one who weighs half as much as you do, is your junior by over twenty years, and possesses a significantly more developed vocabulary. Here in west central Minnesota people volunteer to teach Sunday School out of a genuine love of the community and a desire to give that love in the form of guiding and supporting the spiritual growth of the children of that community. To attack the spiritual underpinnings of that teacher's faith would be quite rude. Little did I know...

Enjoyment of life is inevitable. Until the very moment of death we can each take solace and support from the idea that, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves to be in, our state is temporary, and that there is surely something better in store further down the temporal line. We all exist in a state that constantly reacts to, and drives the creation of, external events. Like swimmers in a lake of quantum fire our bodies cast waves of energy outwards, and react to the energies reflected back to us.

A follower of a follower of Christ once accosted me outside of Chicago Lake Liquors on a warm and sunny summer afternoon.

"Do you know if your name is written in the Book Of Life?" She inquired pointedly.

"Do I know what?" I asked.

"I said, 'Do you know if your name is written in the Book Of Life?'." She quoted herself.

"I'm not sure what that question means." I replied. In my mind I could hear the massive oaken doorway to conversation she sought creaking open ominously as if on formidable and ancient hinges.

"Well, did you know that if your name is not written in the Book Of Life, that you will be cast into the Lake Of Eternal Fire?" She inquired with all the meekness of a jaguar crouched taughtly in preparation for the final murderous leap upon its unenlightened prey. Her hand tightly gripped a stack of Jack T. Chick pamphleture that flapped unceremoniously in the warm August breeze.

What I now realize is that, as Delmore Schwartz once theorized poetically, "Time is the fire in which we all burn." Tycho Brahe, alter ego of the esteemed Jerry Holkins, yesterday asserted that "We are being digested by an amoral universe" Both of these observations share a very dark inspiration at their root, that of living beings consumed, destroyed, or eaten by an uncaring process.

The process, however, is just, and only, that; a process. As Holkins observes it is, quite simply, amoral. The very judgment of believing amorality to be a 'bad thing' is quite simply a childish demonstration of total ignorance of the definition of the aforementioned term. Indeed one could also infer that such judgments show a lack of resolution in one's understanding of definition.

The truthful interpretation of Mr. Holkins, Mr. Schwartz, and my born again fundamentalist friend is that to exist as a consumer only, in this real and very present universe, is to burn in a lake of eternal fire. However, if one wishes to see their name inscribed eternally in the book of life then all that one need do is to pick up a tool or implement of some sort and create something new. Then share it with someone else, if joy it brings to them, then share it they will also.

On Love and Changes

Be very careful of the bits of self that you modify.

Have great care for the parts of your brain that you turn on or off, and why.

Sometimes we see deeply into another's mind.

We may see things that we do not like.

What if we attach to the idea of not liking what we see?

We might be inspired to tell them that we see something in them that we do not like.

The problem is...

We may not be looking into them at all.

We may be only staring deeply into ourselves.

What then, if they were to follow our advice very carefully.

To cut out the truth they understood and integrated so well...

What a beautiful thing we have asked another to destroy...

Simply because we did not learn to truly nurture and enjoy...

The beauty that rests within our own soul.

Love yourself first and always, for you are truly beautiful.

Love yourself so that you may share that love with anyone who,

well intentioned though they may be,

The noise on Capitol Hill is getting pretty loud lately, and our leadership is under a great deal of pressure. We are all living in a moment where timing is of the essence. The heads of state in Washington have a challenging task set before them. They are empowered to take the courageous steps necessary to enable our financial markets to sustain themselves.

With all of the feedbacke present in our media circuits today finding the inspiration to make bold and benevolent decisions is a difficult path to walk. The Power to Change Reality

The power to affect real and lasting change in our world is inherrent in all of us. However, many of us do not know how to tap this power. We are each capable, and inalienable so endowed. So, how do we do it? Power, like everything else, derives from a state of flow. Change is affected as information is transferred from point to point on any given geographical zone of information. A map of a zone can empower an individual with a base set of assumptions about how a zone of data will behave when power is applied to one of that zone's dimensions. No map of a real zone, however, can ever be assumed to be accurate in its representation of all of that zone's dimensions. Each of these geographies have specific topologies, physics, topographies, features, geologies, and gravities that affect the flow of information in positive, negative, or even unexpected ways. Zones in the real possess the capability to manifest subtle, and often hidden, dimensions once power is applied to them. Such is the subtle nature of power itself. Power serves its own purposes, rather than serving the purposes of those who presume the capacity to wield it.

Instead of serving the aims of the individual who chooses to apply power, power serves the purposes of the highest good of all. If the wielder's aim is true then the application of power behaves much as the wielder suspected it would. If, however, the aim of the application is untrue, then reality will bear out the most beneficial learning pattern for all effected. These opportunities for learning can sometimes be very unattractive as in the case of wars and extinctions. Occasionally the learning opportunities can be humorous, or at least ironic, as in the case of criminal intent backfiring and effecting only the criminal.

The learning patterns themselves, regardless of how uncomfortable they can sometimes be, are important to each of us as a part of a greater collective. There are no free rides or free lunches, but there is love and fun to be had in everything that we survive. The trick is in cultivating a point of view that is open to the possibility of great learning in every exchange of information the universe offers us. That which does not kill us only serves to make us stronger. Utilizing that strength is such a way as to manifest greater love, appreciation, gentleness, kindness, and learning is a very clever trick. Perhaps one day we shall all be so wise.

Do the World a Favor...

Do the world a favor, and think kindly and lovingly of yourself and others. Our iternal interpretations of ourselves are inherrently powerful, and pass far beyond the reach of ourselves. These internalized ideals have the power to impact the hearts and minds of all people which we connect with every day. The smallest exchange of information creates a passive connection that reaches far beyond the self. It crosses physical boundaries. It crosses cultural boundaries. It crosses linguistic boundaries. In essence, the passive and pervasive nature of our thoughts teach us that the self has no real boundary.

Any self that interprests themselves negatively brings suffering to the world that is shared and felt by all selves. Any self that loves themselves truly and deeply shares that love with all selves. We heal the world by loving ourselves truly, deeply, and appreciatively. Contrastingly, we can hurt the world by hurting ourselves in small ways. There is no boundary to love. There is no gulf it cannot cross, no river it cannot ford.

In truth there are no boundaries at all. We are simply assuming that a gap in physical space and time between beings is a block to the transit of information. This assumption, like many assumptions is merely a falsehood that we have allowed to perpetuate by not communicating the truth of what we know through experience. Love is everywhere, love is everything. The lack of love is felt by all just as the abundance of love is felt by all.

The real challenge that we each face every day, and in every way, is the challenge of accepting, and courageously loving ourselves as we are. Practicing the art of loving ourselves grants us the capacity to maintain our positive energy. Having a well of positive energy and inspiration to draw upon endows each of us with the ability to grow into who we wish to become.

Likewise we enable others to interpret our existence in their lives as a positive impact. These impacts, when accepted as inspired, give experience that can grant positive inertia for future growth. Negative energy has a like impact. There are no real boundaries, only percieved boundaries. There is an old legal cliche' that suggests that posession is nine tenths of the law. Likewise, perception is nine hundred ninety nine thousandths of reality.

The specific form of an individual's internal symbology is unimportant. Contrastingly though, any given person's adherance to their own symbology is of critical importance. Symbological frameworks are the method we each use to ground our understandings and beliefs about our shared reality that have intrinsic personal meaning and importance to each of us. We use our own internal symbol sets to generate a workable model of our world. Without these filters the world becomes a chaotic cacaphony of compared and contrasted events. A veritable barrage of thunderous noise.

Know that the symbols which you choose may be inherrently meaningless when compared with the symbols of your peers. Know, always and in all ways, that this meaninglessness is, by design (intelligent, or otherwise) unimportant. The importance lies in the internal power and meaning that we each derive from the proper use, application, and understanding of the shapes and patterns we each use to define our world. Without definition we remain cast adrift on a sea of fathomless and constant change. Place your stake in the ground. Here, There, Anywhere. It matters little to the world, for our stakes are placeholders of the self. Celestial lightning rods, visible only to those with the courage to define that which was previously undefined. Shared in experience only by those with the fortitude and grace to accept a previously unknown concept, and to grant experience of another the due power of their own investment of time and energy to create a new lighning rod of meaning in the surface of the unknown fabric of the unknowable.

Accept what you are given. It is your birthright to define that which no one before you could see, hear, taste, touch, or smell. Accept the mantle of your godlike power to create new meaning where only the unknowable existed previously. There are many ideas that can be consumed for profit, or pleasure. Thoughts to be pondered out of interest or indecision. Songs to be sung for the joy or the jeering. Jokes to appreciate in humor or horror. Consume to create, and create ideas anew from that which is consumed. The power lies within us all. Accept it!

I just read this article over at guardian.co.uk (found via [H]ard|OCP), and I have to admit that it really hit home for me. I have recently been going through a lot of personal growth work to face the 'demon of distraction' down and win back my personal productivity, sanity, freedom, and unconditional love of the universe at large.

My experience with this problem has seen it appear in many forms. I have faced distractions from sources such as recreational drug use, recreational reading, unproductive relationships, video game use, tobacco use, alcohol use, laziness, unnecessary introspection, pursuit of perfection, pursuit of happiness, pursuit of pursuit, and just plain ol' lack of knowin' what to do next.

Though I have worked long and hard to eliminate my affectation for distractedness on my own terms, I cannot claim victory in anything but small, minor, skirmishes in what has been an ongoing war of attrition. Innattention to the important is a hard beast to tackle, and our world of myriad paths for distracting input does not make it easy to put one's attention where it will do the greatest good for all, or even for the self.

There are, however, some very inspiring rays of hope out there. A good friend of mine recently recommended a wonderful book by David Allen. In fact, Chris was so kind as to give me his dog eared copy of GTD on the way out the door of my house on a recent visit. This act, if you don't know Chris, is akin to an ordained baptist minister handing over his copy of the good book to a random soul. I can't say that reading GTD has changed my life as of yet, but my inbox is now empty, and my project list underway.

Another great repository of personal growth information can be found at Steve Pavlina's blog. As an individual who appreciates the pursuit of individualism I have greatly valued Steve's ability to get to the proverbial root of any challenge of actively changing one's own internal awareness. Steve is a 'dyded-in-the-wool' altruist, who writes brilliantly of his personal experiences in growing his awareness and love of the world. His writing shows a beautiful pay-it-forward approach to authorship that will no doubt reflect well when his new book, Personal Development for Smart People ships on 20081015.

Practicing Tai Chi under the loving instruction of some local masters has also been amazingly beneficial to my spiritual connection.

The above serve as a small highlight of the magical synchronicities of family, friends, and random strangers that have entered my life to enable my pursuit of the Tao over the past few years. The most important aspect of the pursuit of truth that I have ever learned is that if you seek it you will always find that, as the X-Files so often reminded its viewers, The Truth is Out There.

I remembered running across this site a couple years ago. It's the web side interface for an automated home in The Netherlands that shows readings from various internal webcams and sensors. The owner's have significantly reduced the amount of information displayed over the intervening months, no doubt to maintain some personal privacy, but it's still interesting to check out.

When I first found icepick it included a plethora of information about the various goings on inside the house. There's actually a handy tool over at archive.org, known as the Internet Wayback Machine , that can be used to see what icepick was like 'back in the', proverbial, 'day'.

While your exploring the threads of internet time with Sherman and Mr. Peabody, be sure to check the Moving Image Archive , which includes some amazing finds like the old Department of Civil Defense classic " Duck and Cover".

I'm just writing a quick note of congratulations here. It seemed appropriate, once I heard the news that you had been selected by Time Magazine as the most influential and important person of 2006. Our world has seen some amazing social changes in the last year. YouTube, Google Video, Blogger, MySpace, Google Groups, and any of the hundreds of other social networking sites have created places where we can 'sticky' our voices to the great edifice of the internet in a form of digital graffiti. 2006 created a kind of alchemical reaction wherein we, as individuals, not only learned that we have something valuable to share, but, more importantly, that we have something to learn by giving audience to the myriad of voices that wish to share their experiences with us.

Is it important, or significant, that the editors of Time recognize the past year as the product of the individual? The assertion seems dubious, at best. Most of the technological advancements that led to the '06's buzzology of social networking existed long before we recognized their collective power. It is quite obvious, however, that the inertial nature of human culture is at once powerful, persuasive, and pervasive. We are building the world of our choice, and we express that choice by exercising our voice. Welcome, everyone, to your revolution!

I can't express in words just how thrilled I am that MySpace has come along and made it possible for anyone with a surplus of personal time and a penchant for depravity to find a borader audience for their carnal misanthropy. It's good to hear that something is bieng done about the problem anyway. Thank you Kevin Poulson and the Suffolk County PD Computer Crimes division!

I also hear MySpace is also making inroads among juveniles seeking a platform to threaten US government executive branch figureheads with mortal bodily injury . I can't say that I'd be interested joining GWB's fanclub by any twisted stretch of deviant imagination, but investigating this kid's behavior is an unfortunate waste of time and resources.

Would you like to supersize that identity theft? Apparently some enterprising soul across the big pond decided to subsidize the earnings from their McJob with a generous portion of personal information hijacking. Wow, 10,000 of those things shipped. It would be interesting to hear what the success rate was on that attempt. What?! I mean for purely academic reasons, of course! ; )

Hey all,

Thanks for being part of the group that replied to my think tank, as one of you so accurately characterized it. I got some interesting responses, and, if you are reading this, you must have sent one, or I just love ya anyway. So, Thanks!

Here are the highlights/lowlights;

Conspiracy?
My thought is the Saudi royal family making good on it's promise to the Bush family to lower prices just in time for the election...then they'll sandbag us for another two years until they lower prices again just in time for '08 presidential election...By then they'll have us conditioned to think that $3.15 is a great price after suffering close to $4.00/gal...

We may or may not hear about it in the news but BP and other VERY LARGE oil/gas companies are being investigated for price fixing as there wasn't justification for posting record profits at the expense of taxpayers. What will happen though, is that the companies will have to pay fines that go to the government and not the taxpayer. So, how does this help us? We have now experienced $3 + a gallon and desensitized to it when it comes around again, which it will. In the
end, we take it in the shorts....

...gas prices have been sky-high, but they dropped yesterday after an announcement by Chevron. The oil giant is currently drilling in what may be a major oil patch, deep in the Gulf of Mexico. Analysts say it could be the biggest domestic oil source since the Alaskan Pipeline opened in the 1970's.

I know they found a huge and very deep oil deposit off the gulf coast of mexico that would raise our "oil reserves" by 50%. it could also have to do with summer (historically high on travel, gas consumption and prices) being over. plus the oil lines in alaska are partially open.

all of these reasons and most of the other reasons we hear from the powers that be are excuses to keep the oil companies pockets full of money and keep americans at least okay with having to use gas.

Weather?

I heard the hurricane season is not as bad as thought...but it still has til Dec to run the course.

I heard that the drop in gas prices is a result of this season's hurricanes. This is sound strange, but the prices at the pumps were at a high price due to the expected shortage of gasoline that was caused by hurricanes....that we never had.

So, maybe the editors of Farmer's Almanac will look out for everyone and predict minimal hurricane activity next year so the US consumers won't be price gouged.

Bottom line? Ya got me, but here's what I dug up:

The Energy Information Administration has an interesting website with some good historical market trend data. I used the info from spreadsheets here and here to create the attached chart of the last 6 months of per barrell crude prices, and Gas prices at the pump. Looks like the trend started around 20060807. To me that suggests the weather theory impact on the futures market, but it could also support a gradual decline in prices from Opec related to political strategy.

Meh, more research is obviously necessary. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Hey all,

This recent trend of lower gas prices does not seem to have a solid explanation amongst what passes for journalists in this country. Has anyone out there heard a real explanation for the mechanics of what is forcing prices at the pump down right now? I would hate to think that public perception is being politically manuipulated, and that we're all blind to the machinations. Yah, that would be a bad thing, right?

I'm serious about this. If anyone has heard any conjecture I'd love to hear it. So, I sends this message to everyone I know who has ever had something worth saying. If any of you want to hear what I get in response, send me an e-mail, and I'll pass anything I hear back along.

Heads up everyone. Looks like Microsoft has a shiny new toy. If anyone still has any interest in the postings or source code on the SysInternals site they might want to download a copy before the files disappear into Redmond's bitbucket.

Call me a paranoid cynic, but I think they just want to silence Russinovich by hiring him under NDA. He and Cogswell have hacked away at the sugary outer coating of windows, and exposed its gooey center to the harsh light of reality for years. Usually to Microsoft's significant chagrin. I can't help but think that this is a real loss for the community at large.

On the bright side, we'll probably will get ERD commander bundled in with the next server OS at no additional charge.

Sometimes it's good to peruse the manufacturers website for any pertinent data about the proposed products, check with different vendors for prices, and often investigate a sampling of web forums to get the opinions of common men and women such as my self. Which is precisely why it is so troubling to read annecdotal news like this.

I mean really people! What is this world coming to? Honestly, if you cant't trust in the truth and authenticity of an anonymous stranger scrawling corporate propaganda upon the great digital wall, what can there possibly be left to belive in?

Heh, I guess I'm going to need a few more grains of salt...
